Reconciliation

Reconciliation is an active and evolving issue in the Comox Valley, where the K'ómoks First Nation holds unceded and treaty territory across the region. Coverage here tracks how local governments — including the City of Courtenay, Town of Comox, Village of Cumberland, and the Comox Valley Regional District — are approaching their relationships with K'ómoks, implementing UNDRIP commitments, and responding to calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. This is also a key question area for the 2026 municipal election.

About the Website

During the 2022 municipal elections there was active, passionate conversation in the Comox Valley Politics group. Among the chatter there was much useful, informative information shared. However the format of a Facebook group simply isn’t built for easy later reference and as new conversations occur, information becomes buried and challenging to access. Within that group, participants also regularly mentioned that it was hard to access information on politicians or their platforms. This website was born out of a desire to make information easily accessible, and ultimately to support and encourage local residents to be well educated and enthusiastic about voting.

This website is being maintained through volunteer hours, and Ko-Fi donations are our sole source of financial support.
